NMFC Changes Effective May 23, 2026As a reminder, the National Motor Freight Traffic Association’s (NMFTA) next round of actions from the Freight Classification Development Council (FCDC) Docket 2026-1, which introduces significant updates to the classification of several commodity groups, will take effect on May 23, 2026.

The NMFTA continues to move away from specific commodity descriptions in favor of broader descriptions and a standardized density scale, with density as the primary factor. These updates aim to make it easier for shippers to accurately classify freight and reduce billing disputes; the process began in January 2025 and continues with Docket 2026-1.

Key impact areas include updates to several categories, such as the drugs, medicines, toilet preparations, or personal care products category; the business or office machines category; and various obsolete provisions.

As a reminder, these changes do not come from Logistics Plus but from the NMFTA’s FCDC. Please review it to determine whether your LTL freight shipments will be affected, or contact a Logistics Plus freight specialist.
